Small Business Assistance

A good idea and an entrepreneurial vision need sound support to be successful.  A comprehensive training program for low-income individuals, many of whom are new to the United States, supports entreprenuers who want to start or expand a small business. Trained staff and University of San Diego Masters of Business Administration students provide technical assistance and mentoring to clients. 

Community Development

Block Grant (CDBG)

The Microenterprise Program is funded through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Entitlement Grant that the City of San Diego receives to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low-and moderate-income (LMI) persons.  

Services Provided 

  • Preparing a business plan

  • Obtaining your business license (s)

  • Designing business cards

  • One-on-one business counseling

  • Promoting business

  • Financial Literacy Training & Support

  • Marketing Training

Eligibility

Requirements:

  • Reside within the County of San Diego

  • Be low to moderate income

Documents Needed:

  • Proof of income (i.e. bank statement, pay stub, government assistance letter, etc. )

  • Proof of residency (utility bill)
