Mentoring
 

Access mentors are an integral part of helping youth succeed.  They help youth stay connected and on track to achieve their goals, develop a positive vision for the future, and build resilience.  

 

Mentors support mentees by:

​

  • Empowering them to resolve current issues and to develop coping strategies for the future

  • Providing a model for a healthy, trusting relationships through clear communication and setting appropriate boundaries 

  • Acknowledging mentee strengths, talents and gifts and encouraging them to find ways to use them 

  • Being an active listener and offering support and encouragement when appropriate, through person centered trauma informed approaches

  • Engaging in employment and education activities to help expose mentee to new opportunities and experiences 

  • Assisting with developing social and educational engagement activities and group events in collaboration with staff and other mentors
